A long-overdue tribute in three programmes to Matsumoto Toshio, a key figure in Japanese film in the roles of both theorist and director. Since his debut in 1956, he has produced over 50 works in a wide variety of lengths and formats: these range from political/poetic essays such as Ishi no uta (1963), to spectacular examples of Expanded Cinema like Tsuburekatta migime no tame ni (1969), to structuralist exercises such as Âtman (1975), to high points in video art like Trauma (1989).
