With the introduction of the name, "Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art", the former Friends of the German Cinema present themselves with a different programme structure, a new appearance and new monthly brochure. In addition to cinema and distribution, Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art carries out education, research and knowledge transfer. "arsenal distribution" has around 2,000 films to be lent. In 2003, artistic, experimental films at the interface to the fine arts were added (arsenal experimental). The presentation of video art and experimental films whose form and content often fail to conform to cinematic norms, whether at the Institute, at festivals, or in art venues and galleries, goes towards a constant exploration of the state of cinema.
