Born in 1967. He completed his film and television studies in Bochum with a work on Spike Lee and the African-American Cinema. After working as a freelance film curator for several years, he joined the staff of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in 1999.

He became head of the Archive in September 2001, when he also took charge of the festival's German Competition. He has organized various Profiles programmes at the festival, and curated the programmes "Sarajevo Documentary School" in 2009 and "Krelja/Pupic/Tadic" in 2013. Since 2009 he has also been in charge of the NRW Competition, and in autumn 2011 he assumed responsibility for the festival's Distribution department.
 
He has been representing Oberhausen in the AG Kurzfilm e.V. (German Short Film Association) since 2002, and was a member of the board from 2002–2006. Since 2002 he has also been selected to sit on numerous juries for national and international film and video festivals.
