Oberhausen On Tour
Short films can only be found on YouTube nowadays?
Not quite: Oberhausen on Tour, the bi-annual tour of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, demonstrated in 2017 again that short film is successfully conquering screens and niches beyond traditional theatrical exploitation. The tour project was celebrating its tenth edition with a new record: films from the festival programmes were screened at 57 venues in 22 countries. New this year was a small African focus with screenings in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa. Interest in Latin America, too, was traditionally high: twelve venues in Chile, Colombia and Mexico were participating this year.
A total of 70 short films and music videos toured in eight feature-length programmes: International Competition 2016, German Competition 2016, MuVi Award 2016, Award Winners 2016 and Artist Film 2016 presented prize winners and highlights from the programmes of the 62nd festival edition. The programmes Here and There, Doing the Right Thing and Saving Pop Culture 3 contained older works, too. Some venues also screened specially compiled programmes, such as a selection of documentary films in Thessaloniki, a small James Herbert retrospective in Ljubljana and Zagreb or an Africa special.
Once again the Festival produced a trailer for Oberhausen on Tour 2017 (director, editor and sound design: Christian Schön).
The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen thanks all its partners, especially the Goethe Institutes in Bogotá, Helsinki, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Madrid, Mexico City, Nicosia, Oslo, San Francisco, Santiago de Chile and Yaoundé, for their commitment to Oberhausen on Tour.
Oberhausen on Tour will return in 2019.
