Oberhausen On Tour
Short films can only be found on YouTube nowadays?
Not quite: Oberhausen on Tour, our bi-annual tour, demonstrates that short film is successfully conquering screens and niches beyond traditional theatrical exploitation. Oberhausen on Tour is celebrating its tenth edition with a new record: films from the festival programmes will be screened at 55 venues in 22 countries – 15 in Europe, seven across the world. New this year is a small African focus with screenings in Cameroon, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Interest in Latin America, too, is traditionally high: seven venues in Mexico, Colombia and Chile are participating this year. The tour starts on 15 February 2017 at the Caligari FilmBühne in Wiesbaden, Germany, with 'Here and There'.
A total of 70 short films and music videos will tour in eight feature-length programmes: 'International Competition 2016', 'German Competition 2016', 'MuVi Award 2016', 'Award Winners 2016' and 'Artist Film 2016' present prize winners and highlights from the programmes of our 62nd edition. For the programme 'Here and There', we have compiled short films on the lives of migrants in Germany today. 'Doing the Right Thing' is a programme of children’s films with little or no dialogue. 'Saving Pop Culture 3' presents 18 outstanding German music videos from the festival editions 2008 to 2015. Some venues are also screening specially compiled programmes, such as a selection of documentary films or an Africa special.
Once again we has also produced a trailer for Oberhausen on Tour 2017 (director, editor and sound design: Christian Schön).
We thank all our partners, especially the Goethe Institutes in Bogotá, Helsinki, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Madrid, Mexico City, Nicosia, San Francisco, Santiago de Chile and Yaoundé, for their commitment to Oberhausen on Tour.
