Cancellation of the 66th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen 2020
Due to a decree issued by the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs (MAGS) in North Rhine-Westphalia on 15 March concerning health protection measures to be imposed throughout the state to limit the spread of coronavirus, we are unfortunately unable to hold the 66th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen as planned.
Why is the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen not being postponed?
We have been planning our festival for a long time and preparing it with great commitment. Legal agreements, financial and personnel resources and the unpredictability of further health policy developments are making it impossible to postpone the entire festival.
Is there a possibility to hold the festival online?
Yes, there is. We believe that cultural offers can and must be maintained even in such a crisis and that we are called upon to find creative solutions for it. So at the moment we are looking into which parts of the festival can be presented online or can be postponed until next year.
What will happen to the selected competition entries?
The filmmakers will be contacted by us personally to discuss alternative forms of presenting their films. Please understand that the planning and implementation may take some time.
What happens to the planned programmes?
We are currently checking which programmes are suitable for online presentation or can be postponed until next year. This process and the corresponding communication with the filmmakers concerned will take some time. As soon as we have clarity on this, we will inform you.
When is the online version of the festival planned?
At the moment our plan is to hold the 66th International Short Film Festival in a downscaled online form from 13 to 18 May 2020.
Who can I contact if I work in any form for the Festival?
For the time being we can be reached as usual by telephone or e-mail. We will get in touch with everyone concerned in the next few days and ask for your understanding that this may take some time.
Services that have already been provided to date will naturally be compensated. For services that we cannot call up due to the cancellation, we will try to keep financial losses as low as possible.
Where can I find out about further developments?
We hope for your understanding and ask you to refrain from making enquiries about the ongoing process. We will keep you up to date via our website, press releases and our social media channels.
