A Media Primer
|Title||A Media Primer|
Beginning in 1970, Frank Gillette, Paul Ryan, Ira Schneider and Michael Shamberg recorded a series of videos that were collected by Raindance in a sort of ‘cultural data bank’. The artists were encouraged to put together a collage from it, the so-called ‘Media Primers’. The videos that were used encompassed a cross-section of American culture and counter-culture, but also included documents on political movements in the US at the time. The version by Ira Schneider, for example, contains footage of the Woodstock concert in 1969 and the first Earth Day in New York in 1970.
