Call for Entries: Calling for short films for eight competitions


The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is now inviting entries for its eight 2021 competitions. In addition to the five traditional competitions for international, German and North Rhine-Westphalian short films as well as children's and youth films and German music videos, submissions are now also possible for three new competitions: the International Online Competition, the German Online Competition and the MuVi International Award. Separate prizes will be awarded in each competition, worth a total of around 50,000 euros.


The main prizes in the new online competitions are the Grand Online Prize of the City of Oberhausen, worth 5,000 euros, in the International Online Competition and the German Online Prize, worth 2,500 euros, in the German Online Competition. In the MuVi International Award, as in the German MuVi Award, the First Prize will be worth 2,000 euros. The main prizes on-site will continue to be the Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen (worth 7,000 euros) and the Prize of the German Competition (worth 4,000 euros).


For all entries, the production date must be after 1 January 2020. Works can only be submitted for one competition at a time. International productions may not be longer than 35 minutes; German productions may not be longer than 45 minutes. Music videos in both competitions may not be longer than 15 minutes. In all competitions, Oberhausen is looking for experimentation, innovative film languages, unusual content and formats. The filmmakers of the selected competition entries will be invited to Oberhausen.


From 1 to 4 May 2021, the 67th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen will present the online competitions on the Internet, and from 5 to 10 May 2021, the festival will take place on site, in accordance with the then current Corona restrictions.
