67th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, 1-10 May 2021
Films from Lebanon at the 67th Festival
Second part of the "Goethe-Institut presents..." series
In 2020 the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and the Goethe-Institut launched the series "Goethe-Institut presents..." at the festival. After a successful start, this year the Goethe-Institut Lebanon will present works by various artists and filmmakers from Lebanon. Curated by Nour Ouayda and Rami el Sabbagh, 15 new and older works are on show.
Under the title "Prophecies from the Sea", the curators are showing a programme "about the prophetic nature of cinematic works created in moments of transition". This includes both recent films that deal directly with the catastrophic explosion in Beirut a year ago, its causes and consequences, and older works that focus on earlier historical upheavals in Lebanon and its conflict-ridden history. Films by Chantal Partamian, Ali Cherri, the Atlas Group and Ghassan Salhab, among others, will be screened.
The two programmes will each be shown with introductions by the curators. In addition, a second screening in Lebanon is planned for summer 2021.
Both programmes will be online at the Festival Hub for 48 hours each, beginning:
3 May 8pm CEST
4 May 8pm CEST
The cooperation:
The Goethe-Institut and the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen have expanded their cooperation in 2020 with the new series: "Goethe-Institut presents ...". Every year a Goethe-Institut abroad will present the cultural and short film scene of the respective country at the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen and bring guests and films to Oberhausen. This will include film screenings, lectures, presentations, discussions and workshops at the festival, individually developed and supported by the Film, Television, Radio department of the Goethe-Institut headquarters. In the first part in 2020, the Goethe-Institut Nairobi presented the Nest Collective. For the second time running, the cooperation will now be presented online in a smaller format.
