70th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, 1 – 6 May 2024


Calling for entries for the 70th edition now


Starting now, German and international short film productions or music videos can be submitted for the competitions of the 70th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, which will take place from 1 to 6 May 2024. The Festival is organising five competitions: The International and German Competition, NRW Competition for productions from North Rhine-Westphalia, the Children’s and Youth Film Competition and the German MuVi Award. All in all, a total of more than 43,000 euros in prize money will be awarded.


Submissions for all competitions must have been completed after 1 January 2023 and be made via the Festival website. Different premiere status requirements and regulations are available for information there.

EFA, Oscars, BAFTA

Oberhausen is a nominating festival for the European Film Award and the ECFA Short Film Award as well as a qualifying festival for the short film Oscars and the British Academy Film Awards, provided the winning films comply with the regulations of the respective awards. In 2024, the winner of the German Competition will also qualify for the Oscars for the first time.


The 69th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen

The 69th Oberhausen festival was the first after the pandemic to take place exclusively in the cinemas. From 26 April to 1 May 2023, the festival presented more than 500 films in all programmes, including 120 in the competitions. A total of over 41,000 euros in prize money was awarded. Oberhausen registered around 800 accreditations from more than 60 countries.
