Call for Entries MuVi Competitions
67th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, 1-10 May 2021
New competition for music videos: Oberhausen is now also looking for international clips
Starting in 2021, the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen will organize two competitions for music videos: international music videos can now also apply for their own competition, the " MuVi International Award". The "MuVi Award for the Best German Music Video", which was awarded from 1999 to 2020, will become the "German MuVi Award" in 2021. Both competitions will be presented online (from 1 to 4 May 2021) and in the cinemas (5-10 May 2021). The nominated music videos will each compete for their own prizes worth a total of 7,000 euros, including an online audience award of 500 euros each in both competitions. The closing date for entries for both MuVi Awards is 25 February 2021.
With the MuVi Award for the best German music video (now German MuVi Award), Oberhausen introduced the world's first festival prize for music videos in 1999. Conceived as a director's prize, the prize was awarded from the very beginning for extraordinary and experimental visual formats. Ever since its launch, the MuVi Award has been a real audience favourite.
Since 1998, the Festival has also shown a selection of pioneering international music videos every year. In 2021, the Festival will now transform this programme, previously known as "MuVi International", into the MuVi International Award, which is intended to honour international music videos by the same criteria as the German MuVi Award.
For years, both programmes have been magnets for industry visitors and music video fans, who have filled the cinemas to experience outstanding, unusual, rarely shown and trend-setting clips on the big screen. In addition, everyone now has the chance to vote online not only for German productions, but also to help their favourite international clip win an audience award.
