The Oberhausen Selection
With its own programme for senior citizens' homes and cultural institutions in Oberhausen, the Festival brings its films to those who can no longer attend the festival on their own. What's special about this is that Oberhausen's citizens between the ages of 65 and 90 are responsible for selecting the films. From January to March each year, they view around 40-50 films from the Festival archive and compile the programme from them. The participants themselves have defined the criteria: the films must be easy to understand, i.e. in German or without text and shorter than 15 minutes.
The premiere of the Oberhausen Selection always takes place during the festival, it goes on tour in the following autumn; in 2018 for the first time even beyond the city limits. The concept, which started in 2015 with four screenings, is enjoying increasing popularity and is to be continued in the future.
Thanks to support from the Sparkassen-Bürgerstiftung Oberhausen, all performances are free of charge for the organisers. Beamer and screen will be brought along if required, and on request the films will be presented by a member of the selection group or by the Festival.
