The crisis-induced shift of the 66th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen to the Internet in May 2020 accelerated the structural change of the festival that had already begun, as well as bringing forth new technical solutions and content formats. Within two months, a local festival became a digital event. This included a blog, for which over 130 contributions (talks, films, etc.) were created (with partners such as e-flux, Theater Oberhausen, etc.), which were in high demand. The festival was not only recreated digitally; network-specific solutions were also sought to complement the festival and usher in a new kind of festival functioning.
In the future, in addition to the on-site event, extensive year-round dialogic offerings are to be created in digital space to complement offerings in Oberhausen that are limited in terms of space and time.
