A collection of short videos that examines Gogu's mental state in 2021, after being locked down for more than a year with his family inside a small house unit on the 27th floor of a Rivercity Condominium in Kuala Lumpur. Following the brief of Mr.Khavn, every single video is expressed through different limitations and tools but maintains the sense of the world and characters in all the videos. 

About the filmmaker:
Gogularaajan is an architecture graduate who decided to be an artist/film director. Gogu has been a freelance editor in a few feature films in Malaysia, tried shamelessly to act in a few telemovies, and now working as an assistant director. Gogu believes that there is innocence and magic even inside the worst chaos and mess, and he thinks that it is his job to discover them and show them to the world.

I Moved Back Home Against My Will

“I Moved Back Home Against My Will” is a visual diary attempting to document my feelings of grief, anger, and acceptance in parting with Johor Bahru, my home for 7 years. A place where I had unshakeable faith for flourishing, quickly snuffed out by circumstance. When lockdown forces everyone to stay, the ultimatum compels me to leave. The only movement allowed was from the old place to the new, with no chance to linger around and say my goodbyes. The series of written poems that the films are based on are the first after many years of silence and bliss. 

About the filmmaker:
Eddy Tan is a filmmaker, educator, and organiser based in Malaysia. A faculty member of the Faculty of Cinematic Arts (FCA) in Multimedia University, Cyberjaya, Eddy lectures on topics including Production Management and Silent Filmmaking 101. Eddy was previously involved in projects such as the Johor Bahru Film Grants, initiated by Thick City, as well as co-programming the satellite programme Citarasa | Hadam | Nikmat for Johor Bahru Writers and Film Festival 2017. Eddy is the Technical Manager of SeaShorts Film Society where he oversees the digital infrastructure of Society programming and its annual flagship project, SeaShorts Film Festival.

1. Images shot first, a pantoum found later, images edited following the pantoum’s words and structure. Playful. 
2. A mess of images, a subconscious examination in miscommunication. 
3. Pantun is about a game I (we) used to play pretending to be characters in invented fairy tales. This time it was a snail. The images of multiplied me are out of time with each other, I give up and try dancing. 
4. A pantoum is assigned to me first, images shot and edited later in an exhausted stupor, somewhat following the pantoum’s words and structure. Shit.

About the filmmaker:
Chloe Yap Mun Ee is  an experimental filmmaker and visual artist who is curious about the expressions of form, medium, identity, love, intimacy, as well as their hypocrisies and contradictions. Her shorts H10001_XTOUCH.MOV (2015), (?)’S GAZE (2016), and STRNGE PLCE (2016) have screened locally and internationally. She has also made smaller works like HOW MY BRAIN MAKES SENSE OF PASSING TIME (2017) and DANCE LIKE A SNAIL (2021). Currently she is working on a video installation confronting her fear and guilt towards the cinema image. She is also sometimes a writer, illustrator; and occasionally does film programming with friends for their independent film club

About the filmmaker:
John Peter Chua is a Chinese-Filipino filmmaker based in Quezon City, Philippines. His love for people and intimate stories is best reflected in his films and photography. After graduating with honors from the Ateneo de Manila University, his thesis film "Sa Pagitan ng Kapanig at Dayuhan" won Best Documentary at the 31st Gawad Alternatibo. John Peter is a fellow of the 23rd Ricky Lee Scriptwriting workshop and of the 1st Cine Sundays Script Lab, and a participant of the ...and Action! Asia #3: Asia Exchange Program for Film Students. Wong Tuck Hon, based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is a Year Two undergraduate of Cinematic Arts (Hons) at Multimedia University (MMU). His recent production, "The Sun Will Rise Still" has won the Best Dialogue Short Film 2021 in MMU. His other notable works include "Wise Giving" and "The Sculpture", which won awards at Malaysian Gifts And Premium Association 2019 Gift Fair's Student Video Contest and "MY IACT STORY" Brand Short Film Competition.

A tree growing from a kitchen drain, a lotus flower blossoming from the mud, specimens in a jar, a man battling unseen demons, and transiting journeys-- montages of life's resilience are depicted in this short.
The narrator reflects on her ability to recognize herself, her memories, and her relationships through the passing of time in this poignant short film pantun.

About the filmmaker:
Kaizerine is a Filipina filmmaker based in Malaysia. Her works often portray the journey of living and self-identity.

Dorothy Cheung is a filmmaker and artist currently based in Hong Kong. all the details what I have seen there. I could not have these shots in my mind so I filled them from outside, from my camera.

Ana Barjadze was born in  Gori, Georgia 1998. She studied at The Shota Rustaveli Theatre and Film Georgia State University at Documentary-film directing faculty. I walked around the neighborhood and took my usual routes, with a lack of inspiration and plenty of frustration. I had no plan and nothing was happening and I had to produce some god-damn film poetry! I ended up scrambling some materials together and shot myself in the process. This is the result - my splattered brains.

About the filmmaker:
I’m an experimenter by nature. It’s a curse and a gift. I've been into films for a while now but only recently got myself a camera. How does this thing work? I study documentary film just to get more into the wild and out of my comfort zone. I want to create things that are interesting to watch. Some candy for the ears, eyes, brain and emotions. Now I know how Zeus must have felt when giving birth to Athena - that's how I would describe filmmaking at the moment.

Tera Pechmannova is a photographer and filmmaker, as well as a lover of stories. Using installation, video and photograms but also scents. Tera unfolds her narratives for the viewer to experience.
She grew up in Prague, in a magician family. That had an impact to stay naive in her work same as the way she narrate her life. She crossed the ocean on a sailboat and still looking for patterns of magic in everyday life. The individual and their inventive being are the main inspirations for her long-form. Rain Järv is a 38 year old documentary film student in the Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School in Tallinn. Previously he has studied sociology, economics and various psychology and human mind and spiritual growth thematics. He loves to look deeply into how people and society work and relate to each other. That is also the field that interest him as a becoming filmmaker, and some of that is maybe visible also in the short film added here. Participation in the Ji.hlava film academy got him interested in more artistic approaches in documentary film and experimental/art films as a genre. Persimmon Wolf

Full moon shaped, 
Dark-orange, light-orange, solid, soft with thin skin. 
The shape, the color, the texture -
The attributes that you see or touch.
It is just a persimmon. 
The soft one will be fragrant. 
The solid should wait for its time.
It might be chalky, astringent. 
Eating a persimmon is an act that stands by itself. 
And not a spectacular view of the other face. 
But dried under the sun, in the land,
they forbid you to go - it can deceive. 

About the filmmaker: 

Lala Aliyeva is a documentary filmmaker from Azerbaijan. She started her career as a freelance journalist involved in different media projects. When she discovered cinema she entered Goldsmiths University to study Visual Anthropology. She produced several short documentaries, including her graduation project They Whisper but Sometimes Scream, 2019. The film had its world premier at Vision du Reel and UK Premier at Sheffield Doc/Fest. Currently, she is working on her first feature film.

Nadira Ilana is a filmmaker and independent film programmer from Sabah, Malaysia. Inspired by her Borneo heritage, in 2016 she founded Telan Bulan Films with the aim of crafting contemporary indigenous and minority stories for posterity.

No Leaves to Blow translates a famous haiku by Natsume Sōseki into sounds and visions while exploring how audiovisual language can express meaningful metaphors in a universal and non-cryptic way.

About the filmmaker:

Rosa Canosa is a filmmaker and multimedia translator. She has worked on the production of documentaries financed by ZDF, Arte, RSI and Rai. She has curated film exhibitions, artistic residencies and multimedia performances, and worked in the field of accessible filmmaking (audio description for the blind and subtitling for the deaf and hard of hearing). As a writer and director she recently made a 30 minutes documentary called Dancing Towards Equality (2020)- screened in the UK as well as in Japan, Greece and Italy – and started a personal research on the use of visual metaphors to convey intimate POVs.

About the filmmaker:
Graduated in communication sciences in 2014, at the same time he started an aerial shooting activity with drones, managing over the years to enter the audiovisual Italian film world. In 2016/17 he enrolled at the Prague film school in the documentary course to follow his great dream of being able to tell stories of real life. Since then he has produced two award-winning short films and a feature film currently in distribution.

About the filmmaker:
Almantas Petkunas is debuting Lithuanian film maker based in London. Shortly after receiving his BA in history, Almantas began working as a high fashion model. Being surrounded by the industry’s top photographers, he decided to pursue his own passions of photography and audio-visual arts. In 2016 he received his MA with a distinction in Film and Television Production from Cambridge School of Art and his short experimental film Alter Ego was selected to represent his university at an annual Nahemi Student Film festival. Almantas’ film “Outsiders” was nominated Silver Eye Award 2020 for best short documentary given by Institute of Documentary Film.
