73rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, 27 April – 2 May 2027
Submission is now open to the competitions of the 73rd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen
The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen is now calling for short film submissions to the competitions of its 73rd edition, which will take place from 27 April to 2 May 2027. The deadline for submissions to the International, German and NRW Competition as well as to the Children’s and Youth Film Competition is 18 January 2027. Music videos for the MuVi Award can be submitted until 22 February 2027. The 2027 Festival will award a total of almost 45,000 euros in prize money in all five competitions.
Submissions for all competitions must have been completed after 1 January 2026 and be made via the Festival website.
There is an Early Bird deadline in September 2026 which applies only to the International Competition.

Oberhausen is a nominating festival for the European Film Award and the ECFA Short Film Award as well as a qualifying festival for the short film Oscars and the British Academy Film Awards, provided the winning films comply with the regulations of the respective awards.
The 72nd International Short Film Festival Oberhausen
The 72nd Oberhausen Festival took place from 28 April to 3 May 2026. 121 titles were selected from a record 7,600 submissions to be presented in competition. All in all, the Festival screened nearly 450 films in its competitions and thematic programmes and welcomed around 1,000 accredited visitors.
The Grand Prize of the City of Oberhausen in the International Competition went to Igor Zelić for Opera. The Prize of the German Competition went to Audry Lornacle or 14 Days in DJ’s House by Dagie Brundert.
