71st International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, 29 April – 4 May 2025
Calling for entries for the competitions of the 71st International Short Film Festival Oberhausen now
German and international short film productions and music videos can now be submitted for the competitions of the 71st International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, which will take place from 29 April to 4 May 2025. The Festival is organising five competitions: The International and German Competition, NRW Competition for productions from North Rhine-Westphalia, the International Children’s and Youth Film Competition and the MuVi Award for the best German Music Video. All in all, a total of almost 44,000 euros in prize money will be awarded in 2025.
Submissions for all competitions must have been completed after 1 January 2024 and be made via the Festival website. Different length and premiere status requirements as well as regulations are available for information there.

EFA, Oscars, BAFTA, ECFA
Oberhausen is a nominating festival for the European Film Award and the ECFA Short Film Award as well as a qualifying festival for the short film Oscars and the British Academy Film Awards, provided the winning films comply with the regulations of the respective awards. Since 2024, the winner of the German Competition also qualify for the Oscars.
The 70th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen
The 70th Oberhausen festival took place from 1 to 6 May 2024. 117 short works were presented in the competitions. All in all, the Festival screened around 450 films in its competitions and thematic programmes and registered around 850 accreditations from more than 50 countries.
