Submissions for the 68th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen
Oberhausen is now calling for submissions for its 68th edition (30 April – 9 May 2022). Works can be submitted for the following competitions:
On-site
International Competition, German Competition, NRW Competition, International Children’s and Youth Film Competition
Online
International Online Competition and German Online Competition
Submissions for the German MuVi Award will open in September.
International productions and co-productions with Germany
Please use this option to submit international productions and, this is new, co-productions with Germany for either the on-site or the online competitions. A submission for two competitions is not possible. Please read the corresponding regulations carefully.

New: Early Bird submission deadline on 1 October 2021
This Early Bird deadline only applies to the on-site International Competition. Eligible works received until that date will be previewed in advance. Submitters will be informed of the decisions in November 2021.

German productions
Please use this option to submit German productions. Attention, co-productions with other countries must be submitted via the respective international submission forms and will then be previewed for the respective international and German competitions. NRW productions
Submissions for the NRW Competition must be made via the submission form of the on-site German Competition or, in the case of co-productions with other countries, via the submission form of the on-site International Competition. Please enter “produced or co-produced in NRW” under “Production details”.
In addition, all eligible submissions for the German competitions will be previewed for the NRW Competition. Please read the regulations carefully.

Children's and youth film productions
International productions and co-productions with Germany must be submitted via the entry form of the on-site International Competition; German productions must be submitted via the entry form of the on-site German Competition. Please select “children’s and youth film” in the entry form.
In addition, all eligible submissions to the international and German competitions will be previewed for the International Children’s and Youth Film Competition. Please read the regulations carefully.

How do I submit my film?
1. Fill in the corresponding entry form and enter a preview link.
2. Wait while the independent committees preview all submissions.
3. The competition selection will be announced exclusively by email by mid-March 2022 (entering a valid email-address is therefore obligatory).
The decisions after the Early Bird submission deadline will be announced through the same channel in November 2021.
4. The International Short Film Festival Oberhausen will invite all filmmakers in the on-site competitions to Oberhausen.
5. If your title has not been selected, you can register for the Open Screening after the competition selection has been announced. This only applies to submissions for the on-site competitions (see § 10 of our regulations).

Seminar
Oberhausen Seminar 2022:
In 2022, our Festival, together with the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (New York), is organising the Oberhausen Seminar for the eighth time.
Applications for are expected to be open in October 2021.
The Oberhausen Seminar
The Oberhausen Seminar is an experimental course designed to explore contemporary artists' moving image practice in the context of a renowned international film festival. International practitioners from various fields - artists and filmmakers, curators and researchers - will use our Festival as a laboratory to discuss ideas in the curation of contemporary moving image media, the infrastructures which allow them to circulate, and the critical frames used to analyse them.
The seminar has been organised by the Festival since 2014 in cooperation with LUX (London, until 2019) and the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (New York).

Market Catalogue
Our market catalogue is one of the largest resources for short film worldwide. Here you have access to the submissions to our Festival since 1997, which now include approximately 78,000 titles. All films are available for research by title, synopses, cast and crew, genre, etc. Every year after the festival, the catalogue is expanded to include the latest submissions. Professional Access
An additional service for the professional audience, especially buyers and festival representatives, is access to the current titles already during the respective festival as well as to the contact details for all films. If you are interested in this service, please contact Hilke Doering to request a password.

Video Library
Video Library
In 1989 Oberhausen set up its first short film market, a welcome addition from the start. Today, the Video Library offers 20 excellently equipped stations for viewing the over 7,500 works submitted each year, along with titles from the current screenings, profiles and thematic programme. Access is reserved exclusively for accredited visitors. From 2021, the Video Library will be available exclusively online to accredited professional visitors from May 10 until June 11. In addition, the selected films for the competitions will be available online in the Video Library of This Is Short, the short film portal of the European Short Film Network (ESFN), from mid-June to mid-July.
Professional Access
Since 2012, the service package has included access to the digital market catalogue, in which the entire annual volume of submissions is displayed. The film stock can be searched by genre, country, director, length or format, and sightings during the festival can also be planned in advance. The catalogue will be made available online about two weeks before the festival begins, protected by a password. Passwords will only be issued to accredited festival guests.
