How can sport be staged for a feature film? - Sophia Groening and Jan Bonny in conversation with Dietrich Leder
Sophia Groening, born in Düsseldorf in 1994, studied philosophy and visual studies at the University of Witten/Herdecke. She has been at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) since 2017, where she is currently preparing her graduation film. Her short fiction film "Muss ja nicht sein, dass es heute ist" (mentioned in the interview) was screened in the German Competition of the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in 2022 and received an "Honourable Mention" from the jury. In the same year, it was honoured with the German Short Film Award. In 2023, the German Film Critics' Association awarded its prize in the category "Best Short Film" of the year to this debut film. Jan Bonny, born in Düsseldorf in 1979, completed his studies at the KHM with the screenplay for his feature film "Gegenüber", which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2007. Since then, he has directed cinema films such as "Wintermärchen" (2018), TV films such as "Über Barbarossaplatz" (2016) and "Wir wären andere Menschen" (2019), "Tatort" episodes such as "Borowski und das Fest des Nordens" (2017) and "Ich hab im Träume geweinet" (2020) and the "Polizeiruf 110" episode "Der Tod macht Engel aus uns allen" (mentioned in the interview). He also developed and directed the TV series "King of Stonks" (2022) and "Freiheit ist das Einzigste, was zählt" (2023). Most recently, his film "The Panther" premiered at the Berlinale in February. In addition to these cinema and television films, he has also made a number of short films, music videos and commercials. His work has received numerous awards.
