Legal notice for visitors

The movies shown during the International Short Film Festival Oberhausen are protected by copyright. Recording sound or images during the screening is a copyright infringment. Any attempt will be prosecuted.

Festival Platform

Our programme starts directly after the opening on our Festival Platform.

This is how it works:

Step 1: Purchase ticket
Tickets can be purchased conveniently online on our Festival Platform. You can then enter your own password for the festival platform.

Step 2: Registration
Please enter your login data (e-mail and password). If you have forgotten your password, please click on: "Forgotten your password or having problems logging in?"

Step 3: Access to the online festival
You are now on our Festival Platform. Under Home you will find an overview of the entire programme: At the top of the carousel you will see the programmes currently running. Below that is an overview of all current and future programmes. Clicking on the individual programme will take you to a detailed page with the film overview.

You have the choice
Click on "Play All" to see the entire film programme. By clicking on individual films you will only see the respective programme. An overview of all programmes can be found here. All start times are given in Central European Summer Time (CEST).

Important note
The programmes of the International, the German and the NRW Competition will each be shown twice as a continuous programme at a fixed time (i.e. not streamed for 48 hours). This is why these programme dates are highlighted separately. To ensure that you do not miss any of the programmes, we recommend that you make a note of the dates in advance.

Technical note

We use Vimeo to show our films. If films do not load quickly or buffer in the middle of the stream, it may be due to the streaming quality or internet speed. To solve the problem, please first check your internet connection, update your browser or try reducing the quality of the stream to 720p. You can find more information here. If the problem persists, we will be happy to help you.

Festival Space

Talking about films, along with watching films, is part of the DNA of every film festival, and especially of the Short Film Festival. Our Festival Space is the virtual and public, freely accessible meeting place where filmmakers, people interested in short film and the curious can easily meet and get to know each other, and where our supporting programme such as discussions, talks, panels and the Festival Bar take place.

This is how it works

You don't need to register or have your own account to use it. You can decide whether to join with video, a photo or just your name. In addition, you can provide further information about yourself; this makes it easier to get in touch.

Step 1: Registration
Enter your full name and profession (a profile picture is also welcome).
Note: Please register with your real name. You can search for other users in Festival Space.

Step 2: Camera and microphone
Activate or deactivate as desired.

Step 3: Entry
You will get a short overview of the functions, then enter Festival Space. Select a room on the right-hand side. Click on the name of the room to go there.

Important note
Like any meeting space, Festival Space has a limited room capacity. Exceeding this capacity can lead to quality restrictions (e.g. speed) or to a temporary closure of the room. In this case, please try to come to the Festival Space at a later time. If the number of visitors is higher than expected in the long term, we will adjust the capacity as soon as possible.

Technical information

End device: We recommend visiting the Festival Space via a computer or laptop! It is also possible to use mobile devices, but this may cause complications and not all functions are supported.

Browser: Most common browsers are supported. However, we recommend the use of Google Chrome in particular. When using Safari, problems may occasionally occur. Ideally, make sure your browser is updated to the latest version!

Camera and microphone settings can be adjusted when entering the Festival Space (but also still in the Space itself).

The use of headphones to reduce echoes is highly recommended!

The use of a LAN cable - if available - is also highly recommended!

Please make sure - if possible before entering the Festival Space - that no other programme is blocking the camera and microphone. Please close Zoom, Skype etc.!

If possible, also close other tabs in your browser so that the internet connection is not further impaired.

Check that the use of the camera and microphone is enabled by clicking on the lock symbol in front of the URL.

Please note that the contents of Festival Spaces (including chat messages) may be displayed incorrectly if you have the page translated by your browser.

Should you still encounter technical problems...

... a look at the provider's Help Centre might help.

Otherwise, visit our Guest Office or send us an e-mail and we will be happy to help you.

How do I move around in the Festival Space

There are two types of rooms in the Festival Space.

Meeting Rooms

  • Here you appear as a circular avatar with your video image.
  • By clicking on your avatar and dragging yourself around, you move through the room.
  • If you are near another person, you can talk to them.
  • If you move away from them, the size of the image and the volume of the other person decrease continuously. After a certain distance, communication is no longer possible.
  • In addition, you can communicate with everyone present via the chat function. Private chats are not possible.

Stage rooms

  • Here you do not appear as an avatar, but only as "present" in the room list.
  • Free movement is not possible or necessary in a stage room.
  • You can communicate with all those present via the chat function. Private chats are not possible.

Special features and tips

  • The chat function allows you to communicate with anyone present in the room you are in (private chat is not possible).
  • The room list has a search function in case you want to find a specific person in the Festival Space. Simply click on the magnifying glass and enter the name of the person.
  • Clicking on a person in the list will take you directly to that person - even if they are in another room.

FAQ

How can I participate?

Tickets will shortly be available for purchase on our Festival Platform. No single tickets will be offered, only festival passes for the entire festival period. All further information can be found under Tickets.

How and where can I watch films?

All films can be viewed via the Festival Platform. This year's festival programme can be found here.

Note on inclusion
Most of the films are subtitled in English or German, with the exception of the Children's and Youth Film programmes up to and including age 10 and up, which are only available with a German voiceover. You can find an overview of the available language versions here.

How long can I watch the film programmes?

Programmes can usually be viewed online for 48 hours on our Festival Platform, with the exception of the International, the German and the NRW-Competition, each programme of which will be shown twice as a continuous programme at fixed times. The subsequent discussions – as well as the Q&As and panels - take place live in our Festival Space.

The Home page on our Festival Platform and our programme page provide an overview.

It is strictly forbidden to make sound or image recordings during the online screenings and/or to download the streamed films. This is a punishable copyright infringement; any attempt will be reported to the police.

In which language can I watch the films?

The competition programmes are shown in two versions, one for English speakers and one for German speakers. Most programmes other than the competitions are shown in one language version. Information about the language versions can be found in the overview below and in the programme.
